The building is over 3 levels with a central 2 storey round atrium in the middle filled with light from the northern glass brick wall and what is a proportionally long and narrow plan.

 

Blackwell Science Asia is an international publishing company with over 80 staff in its Melbourne office. The company not only required adequate space in which to work but also to a space to showcase their product and environment that would reflect their growing and visionary aspirations.

 

The design sought to transform the existing space into an open and light filled interior that would reflect the vigour and ideas of a growing modern company. The linear plan was emphasised while the curves that swept out from the atrium were removed. The pure circle of the atrium space was emphasised making it the hub of the office, where both staff and visitors could view the company product, with both hard display of publications and a graphic backlit display unit.
