Craig Family Centre
ASHBURTON
2015
The Craig Family Centre project involved the demolition of the existing childcare facility on the site, whilst retaining certain elements and spaces, such as the existing Maternal and Child Health consulting rooms. The redevelopment includes new rooms for occasional childcare, three new kindergarten rooms which will increase the number to 66, administration and entry spaces, offices, staff rooms, kitchen and amenities, additional consulting rooms as well as community programmes.

The design reflects the desire to provide an indoor/ outdoor play experience. The building wraps around the outdoor area creating both intimate and open spaces, with external connections made through bi-fold doors and windows. Internal spaces designed to provide a variety of opportunities for free play and imagination from window seats, port hole windows and reading nooks located within the joinery have been readily embraced by the staff and children.
