Kew House

KEW

2009

This unique, three-bedroom house sits on a corner site in a leafy inner suburb within the city reaches of the Yarra River Valley. It’s design deals with the idea of placing a delicate translucent box for living in the tree tops, capturing views and providing a screened and animated by light primary space.

The lower level grounds the habitation experience with a change of material, landscape, and water environments. The west and south walls at the upper level are finished with a continuous glass skin or ribbon of translucent double glazing, wrapping around the main living area stopping at the upper level outdoor space and continued with lightweight metal sheeting. The upper level enclosing ‘skin’ contrasts with the rustic brickwork of the ground floor.
