The masterplan for Wantirna College is driven primarily by the idea of 'campus betterment'. This project was not just a matter of siting additional facilities on this large suburban college (1500 students) rather a holistic overview was required for both physical facilities provision and most importantly adding environmental quality to the campus.  

 

Sitting on a large sloping site with views to Dandenong Ranges in the east and possessing a large complement of relocatable buildings our approach was to provide a heart space to the campus at the cross road of student movements and place an enlarged canteen facility with open views to the hills across a newly landscaped external space.

Various other buildings were adaptively reused and supplemented by careful infill facilities in key locations. The major new building was the new theatre space with tiered seating, rehearsal rooms and bio box. This facility draws on the strengths of the drama and music programmes within the college and confidently extends the presence of the college into the surrounding community.
